Excellence in Bindery:
Biltmore Farms LLC
Collection of professionally beautifully bound maps and brochures, Biltmore Farms LLC

22" x 25.25" map printed on 100lb uncoated text, folds into 8.5" x 11"  | 24"w x 6"h. six-panel accordion  brochure printed on 80lb Classic Crest cover.

Biltmore Farms LLC is a land developer with a unique history. They continue the Vanderbilt family legacy by cultivating vibrant spaces and commercial enterprises that steward the sustainable practices and beauty of Arts and Crafts architecture. One of these developments is The Ramble, a stunning mountain community set in 1000 acres of forest. In addition to marketing material for buyers, our client required an inspiring range of printed materials exclusively for residents to promote activities and events. Working closely with their marketing team, we produced a collection of publications in keeping with the curated vision of the estate. We recommended thoughtful sizes and bindery techniques that would ensure the finished items harked of elegant old-world charm and curious adventure, mixed with modern luxury living. Trail Map: The trail map (pictured) is made from velvety smooth 100lb Cougar text, a durable acid-free paperstock which delivers brilliant colors. It is printed on a Ryobi 950 offset press, which supports 6-colors in a single pass per side with perfect registration on oversized paper. The map is then trimmed to 22" x 25.25" and fed through a powerful cylinder creasing machine and folder to achieve a nostalgic French-letter fold. This fold is the combination of a half-fold in one direction followed by folds perpendicular to the first. The result is twelve panels that close into an 8.5"x11" letter-sized pamphlet, suitable for a standard-sized display case. Prior to the print run, a test hardcopy is produced for inspection and full bindery mockup. A front and back section were incorporated into the template design, omitting the need for an additional cover piece or gluing. Artist-in Residence Program: This accordion-style brochure (pictured) stands out for its uncommon size. Measuring 24"w x 6"h when flat, it folds equally into six panels per side. The final display size is a compact 4”w x 6”h, similar to a small postcard. To achieve a gallery finish the brochure is printed on Classic Crest solar white 80lb cover-stock with an eggshell texture by Neenah. For practicality and cost-saving, we use our high quality Xerox Iradesse 6-color press which is more economical for small quantities. Accommodating an extra-large 13” x 28” sheet, each piece yields two brochures with bleed. Per usual, a hardcopy is produced first to test the bindery alignment. The sheets are trimmed to size and cylinder-scored prior to folding to prevent the surface from cracking along the crease. The outcome is a showcase of craftmanship suitable for an artist program, which can also serve as an enduring memento.
