A Western North Carolina success story is celebrating a milestone this month. Advantage Direct, the family‑owned commercial print business in Arden, marks 45 years of serving local businesses, nonprofits, and community programs with high‑quality printing and friendly, reliable service.

The company began in 1981, when John and Judy Montcastle opened a small while‑you‑wait print and copy shop in the Battery Park Apartment building in downtown Asheville. At the time, most businesses didn’t have computers or office printers, and the Montcastles quickly became a trusted resource for anyone who needed documents or flyers in a hurry.

“We’ve always believed that staying ahead of technology and connected to our community is the key to success,” said owner, Judy Montcastle.

Over the decades, Advantage Direct has grown from a neighborhood quick print and copy shop into a premier print facility offering 6 color offset printing, digital production, bindery, wide‑format signage, direct mail and web-to-print portals. They were early adopters of Computer‑to‑Print technology in 1989 and later introduced wide‑format flatbed printing to the region. In 2019, the company earned the distinguished G7® Master Facility Certification, a global standard recognizing excellence in consistent, accurate color.

Beyond their technical achievements, Advantage Direct has remained deeply rooted in the community.
